Custom quilting
Bring me your ideas - feathers, ferns, leaves, hearts - or I can suggest patterns based on my 30 years of experience. I will sketch ideas as we talk and create a one-of-a-kind pattern to finish your special quilt.
Pricing
Pricing is based on the size of your quilt and the style of quilting you request. Start with a free, no-obligation consultation.
Preparation guidelines
In order to avoid delays and extra charges, here are a few things you can do:
1.Make sure your borders are the same length as the quilt. Measure the quilt across the center and both ends. If the quilt is narrower in the center your borders will ruffle and the quilt won’t lay flat.
2.If your border has many seams, stay stitch the outside edge of the quilt. This will keep seams from ripping out under tension.
3.Remove all selvedges. Selvedges are a tighter weave than the rest of the fabric. The center of your fabric will sag and pucker if the selvedges are not removed.
4.Please give your top and back a good pressing and remove loose threads.
5.Remove batting from the package and fluff in a warm dryer to remove creases. Then fold, but do not return it to the package. Batting and backing should be squared and 8” wider and longer than the quilt. An 80”x80” quilt should have an 88”x88” backing and batting.
6.Please mark the top edge of your quilt and backing with a safety pin.
Batting
There are many batting choices available to you, however, some are too fragile for a longarm machine. I usually recommend Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting, Hobbs wool batting, Hobbs Thermore and Warm and Natural. It’s a good idea to ask before buying other products. Many of the poly batts also quilt quite nicely.
Cotton batting breathes and has a 3-5% shrinkage rate. Polyester is warmer and provides more loft with very little shrinkage. Hobbs 80%cotton 20% poly provides the best of both.
Thread
For best results I use the same color on the top and the back. You may bring your own thread choice for me to use, if it is compatible with my machine. My thread of choice is Superior Thread products.
I will trim the back and the batt to about 1” larger than your quilt unless you request otherwise.
